When the tread on your tyres is wearing down this can affect the performance of your vehicle and can also be extremely dangerous. This is especially the case in wet weather when the grooves in the tread help to disperse the water and give you the extra grip on the road that you require. There are also legal guidelines that must be considered with regards to the depth of the tread. New tyres will start with around 8mm of tread and it is important that you have your tyres replaced if any part of the tread wears below 1.6mm.
The legal requirement states that the tread must be at least 1.6mm deep across the central three-quarters of the tread in a continuous band around the circumference. Without experience this can be very difficult to spot so if you are in any doubt, bring your vehicle to MOT City where we will be happy to check for you.
We recommend that you replace tyres when the tread gets down to 2mm to continue to get the best performance out of your vehicle and ensure you are safe in all weathers. We stock a large range of tyres for cars, vans, light commercial vehicles and 4x4s, from low-cost to high performance, including all the popular brands.
